Lunch break with Parker

Posted by Jessica July 23rd, 2010

Web guys sometimes get a bad wrap for being locked in the basement and never seeing light. Luckily, Parker, our web genius, takes advantage of working slopeside. He took the helmet cam out for a “quick” lunch break on the Danny On trail.

Name the Big Zip!

Posted by Jessica June 30th, 2010

As you may have heard, we’re opening two new zip lines this summer. To celebrate, we’ve named all the zip lines except for ONE. And, that my friends, is where you come in. Zip #3 needs a name; a name that lives up to the highest and longest zip line on the tour (1/3 mile and 300′ in the air to be precise). So we’re holding a ‘name the zip’ contest. All you have to do is come up with a fun, clever, witty, creative name. We’ll pick our top 5 favorites and then let loose to the masses to pick the final winner. Easy. You have until July 12 to submit your entries (yes, you can enter as many times as you wish). The winning name will be immortalized on t-shirts and the winner will walk away with 4 Zip Line vouchers (that’s a $300 value, equal to the height of the zip line). Plus all the bragging rights you can handle.

So what are you waiting for, enter now! CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE ENTRY PAGE

What Are You Afraid Of?

Note: This post was originally written for the June 30 print edition of the Flathead Beacon. On the inside back cover, there lives a weekly column called “Inversions”, in which I write things. Pick up a copy and check it out sometime.

Sally Cook, of Rollins, Montana, is 95 years old. She also tips the scale at about 95 pounds, making her rather adorable.

The Venerable Mrs. Cook

What it doesn’t make her is at all hesitant to live life to the fullest. Last Wednesday, June 23, Sally rode the Alpine Slide. Pretty cool. A small crowd of friends, family, and local media cheered her on as she arrived at the bottom, grinning.

And then she went downstairs to get fitted into her harness for the Zip Line Tour. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting our hands dirty

Posted by Jessica June 29th, 2010

Recently, a handful of WMR staffers loaded up a van and headed over to Glacier to do some trail work. The Glacier Park Fund organizes trail work days for businesses and individuals who want to get their hands dirty and help the trail crews improve trails in the Park. It’s a small way we can give back to our community. And in turn, I got to know a bunch of coworkers better whom I usually just see in passing. So rather than blabbing on about the rainy weather, backbreaking work carrying tons (literally) of gravel and the cheery disposition of the trail crew, here’s some pictures of our great day at the Huckleberry Trail.
